AVALON FREE BEACH MOVIES RETURN TUESDAY, JULY 7TH; MORE UPDATES
Avalon will once again present a fun series of free beach movies starting on Tuesday, July 7th. By then, the State of New Jersey is expected to allow larger gatherings outside. Our first movie will be “The Goonies”, and will be free, just bring a beach chair or a blanket.
On Monday, June 15th, the State has allowed outdoor dining. Many Avalon restaurants have applied for, and will receive, permits to allow outdoor dining on that date. Indoor retail, with restrictions, will also be allowed by the State on June 15th.
Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi has also relaxed limited play on pickleball and tennis courts as of Monday, June 15th. Courts are currently open on a limited basis; all courts will be open on that date. Social distancing measures are still in place. Basketball courts are also open. The State mandates that playgrounds must remain closed. Sports camps in Avalon will also begin this month; outdoor fitness programs are currently available and currently have a capacity limit of 100 guests, per the State, with social distancing. Boat launching is available at Bay Park Marina.
No beach tags are required on Avalon’s beaches until Friday, July 3rd. The Beach Tag Booth is open daily from 10am-4pm at 30th Street and the beach. The reconstruction of the 8th Street Jetty is nearly complete; heavy equipment will be moved from the site as early as next Wednesday, June 17th.
Public buildings remain closed to the public in Avalon due to the pandemic, including the Avalon Free Public Library and Avalon Community Hall.
Bulk trash collection begins Monday, June 15th in Avalon; it was rescheduled from an earlier date in May. The Avalon Department of Public Works maintains a trash and recycling depot at 15th Street and Dune Drive, which is open every day for courtesy drop off of trash and recyclables.
Finally, the last day of bridge repairs conducted by the County of Cape May on Avalon Boulevard in Middle Township will be Monday, June 15th, and is to be concluded no later than 4:00pm. There is no work on the roadway today through Sunday.
